Sacrifices

Archaeologists uncovered over 80 skulls of women who were probably sacrificed in China thousands of years ago. They were not found individually, but in a mass grave that may have been apart of the ceremony.  Keep in mind, skulls were found, not bodies.  I'm wondering what kind of ceremony is accepted that is so violent?

This is not the first occurrence like this in China. They have a history of human sacrifices.  Kings and Emperors would sometimes want to be buried with their servants - even if the servant was alive at the time of the passing.  In this case, the servant would be killed or buried alive to suit the passing wishes of the Emperor....

I don't understand...
